Puzzle games that fit the gap between two things

A good short puzzle ends when you stand up. It does not ask you to “just finish the chapter.” These are the ones I actually open on FreeGameToPlay when I have ten minutes, and the shelves I use when I want more of the same.

Numbers, if that is the mood

Sudoku Master is ordinary sudoku, which is the compliment. You already know the rules, so the break starts immediately. Color Sudoku is the same grid with color doing the work of digits, useful when you are tired of 1 to 9. Number Slide and Number Chain are smaller: slide or link until the board is finished, then stop. 2048 Hexa is the one that will steal the rest of the break if you let it. Hexes instead of a square, same “one more move” problem as every 2048.

If you want a whole site of number puzzles rather than a handful, Coolmath Games has been that shelf for school-age players for years. I still come back here for Sudoku Master because it is one tap and no account.

Colors and paths, if numbers are not it

Flow Fill is pipes and paths: connect the matching ends without crossing yourself into a corner. Zen Slide and Untangle Puzzle are slower. You are tidying a board, not racing a clock. Circuit Puzzle and Corner Connect ask for a plan, which is why they also show up when someone wants a harder sitting, not just a gap.

The whole puzzle category is the longer list. Block Fit and Block Buddies sit next to it if you want pieces instead of paths. Poki will show you fifty more puzzle games from other studios the moment you search. That is useful. It is also how a ten-minute break becomes a half hour of choosing.

Picking one

  • Which puzzle should I open first?

If you know sudoku, Sudoku Master. If you want something you have not played, Flow Fill or 2048 Hexa.

  • Are these only for children?

No. They are short and bright, which is why kids like them, and they are the same games adults open on a train. Almost everything on the site works for both.
